Depression Treatment in Washington State

Psychiatric evaluation and medication management for depression — delivered statewide through secure telehealth.

Depression is one of the most common reasons people seek psychiatric care, and one of the most treatable. At ATC Psychiatry, we provide thorough evaluation and individualized medication management for adults, teens, and college students across Washington State — from a clinician-owned practice, not a high-volume subscription service.

If you've been managing low mood, loss of interest, fatigue, or difficulty functioning for weeks or months, a psychiatric evaluation can help clarify what's happening and what might help.

Forms of Depression We Treat

Depression takes different forms, and treatment depends on which one is present. We evaluate and treat:

  • Major depressive disorder, including recurrent episodes

  • Persistent depressive disorder (chronic low-grade depression)

  • Treatment-resistant depression — when previous medications haven't worked

  • Depression with anxiety, which is common and affects medication choice

  • Perinatal and postpartum depression

  • Seasonal patterns, which matter in the Pacific Northwest

  • Depression alongside ADHD, trauma history, or sleep disruption

Part of the initial evaluation is distinguishing between these, and ruling out contributors like thyroid dysfunction, sleep disorders, or bipolar spectrum illness — where standard antidepressants can be the wrong choice.

Our Approach

Thorough evaluation first.

Your initial appointment is up to 90 minutes. We take a full history — symptoms, timeline, prior treatments, medical background, sleep, substances, and life circumstances — before recommending anything.

Conservative, evidence-based prescribing.

We start with well-established medications at appropriate doses, adjust deliberately, and monitor response. We don't add medications reflexively or prescribe outside what the evidence supports.

Collaboration with therapy.

For most people, medication works better alongside psychotherapy than alone. If you're already working with a therapist, we coordinate. If you aren't, we can help you find one.

Attention to what else is happening.

Sleep, alcohol use, thyroid function, chronic pain, and life stressors all affect depression and its treatment. We address them rather than treating the diagnosis in isolation.

What Treatment Looks Like

Your first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. If medication is appropriate, we'll discuss options, expected timeline, and side effects before starting anything.

Follow-up visits are typically every two to four weeks initially, spacing out as you stabilize. Most antidepressants take four to six weeks to show full effect, and finding the right medication sometimes takes more than one attempt. We'll tell you what to expect and adjust as we go.

We do not promise fast results. We do commit to consistent follow-up and honest conversation about what's working.

Who We See

Adults, teens aged 15 and older, and college students throughout Washington. Many of our patients are managing depression alongside work stress, caregiving, academic pressure, chronic illness, or major life transitions.

Telehealth removes the logistical barriers that often stop people from starting treatment — travel, time off work, and the wait for an in-person appointment. All visits are conducted by secure video from wherever you are.
